A Quick Guide to Our Fibres

At John England, we create many types of fabrics — using different textures, weave structures, weights and finishes that look great for any project you want to use them for. Not only do we produce 100% pure Irish linen at the factory, but we have also been supplying our customers with a series of beautiful blends that combine linen with other naturally exceptional fibres.

Pure Irish Linen

Our flagship cloth — flax fibre, woven, washed and finished in Banbridge. Naturally cellulose, naturally biodegradable. The longer the staple, the smoother the surface; we work with some of the longest staple linen in Europe.

Linen/Hemp

Although our pure linen is an amazing fabric on its own, we have blended it with another naturally incredible fibre — sustainable hemp — without compromising the feel or the hand of the cloth. Hemp is a naturally strong fibre that holds its shape and does not stretch. It wears in beautifully — softer with every wash.

Linen/Wool

Our lambs' wool and linen blend is a strong contender for both home and wardrobe. Wool is an excellent absorber, able to wick away moisture, retains heat and keeps you warm and cosy. The hue of the colours you select to be woven into your wool/linen fusion can shift considerably as the protein and cellulose fibres take dyes differently.

Linen/Recycled Cotton

We like to keep it sustainable, which is why our recycled cotton and responsibly sourced cotton/linen blend is a perfect addition to any designer's palette. Recycled cotton looks and feels like regular cotton, with the advantages of being water-saving, lower-impact, and waste-reducing — without compromising on softness or strength.
